Quintessence: Extreme Music Magazine (www.quintessence.sh)
Yeah, this is one hell of an interesting album that I have in my hands, namely “Ada” from
Wraith Of The Ropes. The label describes their music as horror metal. There is nothing wrong
with that, but a bit unclear to me and probably others. I would describe the music as funeral
doom with dark metal and atmospheric influences. But it’s definitely very unique and interesting.
Wraith Of The Ropes was formed in 2001 in Hamilton, Ohio and started as a trio, namely Scarecrow
Rottinghouse, E.M. Hearst and V. Rottinghouse. V. Rottinghouse however left the band in 2004.
By the way, E.M. is also the founder of Torture Wheel, an extreme doom metal band and Scarecrow
joins him. Wraith Of The Ropes has some comparisons with that sound too, but creates more a
horrifying sphere. Ada is the debut album of this band and contains 7 tracks, including an intro
and clocks almost one hour. “Ada“ has a certain concept and that’s why the music has a slow
tempo. The band doesn’t call themselves a doom band and future releases could contain a different
sound. But for now, I think that “Ada” is definitely recommended for doom fans, but also other
people who are into extreme music could check this one out. The reason for this is that we have
to deal with, in my opinion, a unique and interesting sound.
